Portugal

Portugal

We traveled to Portugal to celebrate our 10-year anniversary. We broke our 3-week trip up between mainland Portugal and the island of Madeira. This post pertains to the mainland. After arriving in Lisbon we picked up a rental car and headed to Carvoeiro. Carvoeiro is a picturesque coastal town located in the Algarve region of Portugal. It is a popular tourist destination due to its stunning cliffs, golden beaches, and crystal-clear waters. We stayed at a beautiful boutique hotel, the…

Antarctica

Antarctica

Our long-awaited trip to the world’s 7th continent took place in January. We were originally scheduled to sail on Viking’s Polaris ship in December, right before our Viking Chilean Fjords and South America cruise. However, the week prior to our scheduled sailing the Polaris was struck by a rogue wave while crossing the Drake Passage. The wave blew out a number of stateroom windows with such force that, sadly, one person was killed and four others were injured. Viking notified…

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Buenos Aires, Argentina

We spent a few days in Buenos Aires between our Viking South America and Antarctica cruises. We really liked the city. More importantly, we felt safe. We were able to walk around the city without any more worry than we’d have walking around New York. Probably one of the best-known, or at least the most recognizable, neighborhoods in Buenos Aires is La Boca. La Boca has a rich cultural history. The houses and retail shops are brightly painted. From what…

Viking’s South America & Chilean Fjords Cruise (12/17/22 – 1/06/23)

I know a lot of folks have been waiting for me to post this, along with a blog post on our Antarctica Cruise. Sorry for the delay. We’ve had a lot going on recently. So, without further delay…… Our trip began in Valpara√≠so, Chile, which is along the coast of the South Pacific Ocean, 75 miles NW of Santiago. Valpara√≠so is the second largest metropolitan area in Chile. It is one of the most important seaports in the Pacific Ocean….

Michigan’s spectacular Upper Peninsula

Michigan’s spectacular Upper Peninsula

We spent a week in Michigan’s UP (Oct. 8th – 14th). I have been to the UP numerous times, but never in the Fall, and this was Charlie’s first visit. Our first stop was in the Porcupine Mountains, along the coast of Lake Superior. We enjoyed spending a day driving through the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, taking in all of the beautiful Fall colors. At the end of the day, we visited the popular overlook at Lake of the…

Churchill, Manitoba: Polar Bears and Northern Lights

Churchill, Manitoba: Polar Bears and Northern Lights

Charlie and I participated in Fantasy RV Tours’ 15-day Polar Bear Migration trip. This was our second trip with Fantasy. Our first trip was to Alaska. Like that trip, much of our route was in remote areas, for long stretches. Because of this, we thought that it would be better to travel in a group. The trip began at the International Peace Gardens, along the US-Canada border, just north of Dunseith, North Dakota. The International Peace Garden (https://peacegarden.com/) was established…

Our road trip to Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Our road trip to Theodore Roosevelt National Park

We pulled the motorhome out of our storage unit, just down the road from our house in Hiawassee, Georgia, and hit the road on September 7th. Our first night was spent in Nashville, TN at the Elm Hill RV Resort. This is a nice RV park right on Percy Priest Reservoir. Below are pictures of our site, and the view from right behind our motorhome. We had gorgeous weather, with temps in the low 80s. Because the park isn’t too…

Viking Homelands Cruise (Norway, Denmark, Germany, Poland, and Sweden)

Viking Homelands Cruise (Norway, Denmark, Germany, Poland, and Sweden)

We had a fabulous time sailing with Viking. It was our first ocean cruise with them. Back in 2015 we did their Paris to Prague (Cities of Light) river cruise and loved it. We sailed the ocean on Viking’s Star ship, which has a capacity of 930 guests. I believe we had about 630 guests on our cruise. The ship is smaller than your typical ocean cruiser, allowing it to get into smaller ports, which many of its competitors are…

We’re back!

We’re back!

It is hard to believe that it has been over 2 years since my last post. I thought it was time to start it back up. Over the past 2+ years, we took one 6-week road trip out west and another, much shorter trip, to northern Michigan. Aside from that, we kept busy with home projects and family. We sold our Atlanta house, as well as our coach house at Mountain Falls Luxury Motorcoach Resort. We found ourselves constantly on…

Exploring Santa Fe and Angel Fire, NM

Exploring Santa Fe and Angel Fire, NM

After visiting with our friends in Sedona, AZ we started heading eastbound. Our first stop was in Santa Fe, New Mexico where we met up with more friends; Deb & Terri. We had a great time hiking and exploring old Pueblo settlements at the Bandelier National Monument with them. The Ancestral Pueblo people built and lived in dwellings, carved into the volcanic rock, between 1150 and 1550 AD, but there is evidence of human presence in this area over 11,000…
